After the Aisle: Date Night Done Right

by Marquita C. Richardson

As a married couple, one of the ways you and your spouse can spend quality time together is by prioritizing date night. Whether you plan for it once a week or once a month, it’s important to make the time for just the two of you. Below is a list of options to consider for your next outing.

Weekend Getaway

Travel is always a good idea, no matter the occasion. Whether it’s a getaway for the weekend or just a day trip, it’s always good to take a break from the norm. Perhaps you want to explore areas you’ve never been or make a reservation at a resort you frequent yearly. Either way, traveling is an opportunity to escape, learn new things, spend quality time with your loved ones and come back home refreshed.

Museum or Play

I love the arts and oftentimes enjoy a great play or checking out a new museum. Around the holidays, I enjoy seeing the play “Black Nativity” by Langston Hughes. I also enjoy productions by the talented dancers with the Alvin Ailey Dance Company. Although I have not been yet, I hope to soon visit the National Museum of African American History and Culture. Any opportunity to see great talent or learn about our history makes for an enjoyable experience for me. Consider supporting the arts by attending a play or going to a museum for date night.

Lunch

I know most of us go to dinner on a regular basis, but every now and then my husband and I enjoy a good lunch date. A lot of times with such a busy schedule, it’s easy to get burnt out by the time dinner rolls around, so lunch is a great alternative. I find that it is just as enjoyable as dinner. What’s also good about it is that the prices are typically lower and the restaurants are less crowded. By the time dinner comes around, we enjoy time at the house where we can “Netflix and Chill”.

Sip and Paint

Sip and Paint events have become popular over the last five years. This type of activity would be really fun for couples. Believe it or not, painting can be relaxing and therapeutic. What better way to wind down than spending time with your spouse painting and enjoying a glass of wine?

Couples Massage, Manicure and Pedicure

For me, the ultimate relaxation comes when I get a nice massage, manicure or pedicure. When the right person is doing it, it’s amazing! Getting a manicure, pedicure or massage with your significant other is a great choice for the ultimate date night.
