Practicing Self-Care During the COVID-19 Pandemic

By Toneka Royal

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused such a rapid culture change in a short period of time leaving everyone feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and even isolated. During these unprecedented times, practicing calmness and self-care during quarantine is essential. It’s important to take the necessary steps to ensure that we stay physically and mentally healthy through this pandemic and long after.

Try these tips below to stay healthy!

1. Maintain A Daily Routine

It’s important to try and have as much normalcy as possible. Create a daily routine involving physical activity like going for a walk or doing home workouts, reading, writing, taking an online class, enjoy your favorite hobbies or just enjoy relaxation time.

2. Practice Mindfulness

Before the COVID-19 pandemic begun, you were probably so busy juggling your job and family that you hardly had time for yourself. This makes quarantine a great time to slow down and appreciate life.

You can practice mindfulness with yoga or download a meditation app.

3. Organize Your Home

You may never get this much free time to put your home and personal belongings in order. Declutter wardrobes and do some thorough cleaning.  This will leave your home clean enough to live in comfortably throughout the quarantine.

4. Make Healthy Eating Choices

Eating healthy is always important, but it’s even more important now than ever before. Nourish your body and help boost your immune system with nutritious foods like broccoli, spinach, berries, almonds, salmon, nuts, whole grains and Greek yogurt. Don’t forget to hydrate with H2O!

5. Adopt a Skincare Routine

Take extra care of your skin during the quarantine to make it healthier and radiant. A skincare routine that includes skin cleansing, exfoliating, steaming, and toning will do the trick!

6. Get Plenty of Rest

Having a healthy sleep pattern allowing the body to rest and heal is crucial during stressful times and uncertainty. Now is the perfect time to practice good sleep hygiene and try to stick to a regular sleep schedule.

What are some ways you have been putting yourself first during this time?
