Love & Basketball: An Ohio Engagement Session

It was the summer of 2006 and Kevin was the new kid on the block when his family moved to the same Reynoldsburg neighborhood as Kenyell. One day he was walking around dribbling his basketball, while his brother was skateboarding, to check out their new community. As fate would have it, Kevin ran into Kenyell and her two friends sitting outside her friend’s house. The two have been together for 13 years now and look forward to becoming husband and wife soon! Check out their engagement shoot captured by Vision and Style Photography.

Bride: Kenyell Nicole Goodson 28, Contracting specialist

Groom: Kevin James Gray 28, Teacher & Varsity Basketball Coach

Place of residence: Canal Winchester, Ohio

Engagement Shoot Location: Reynoldsburg High School (Livingston Campus)

Engagement Story:

Kevin and Kenyell were on a Royal Caribbean cruise with Kevin’s family headed to Bermuda and it was the couple’s first vacation with his side of the family. At the Captains Dinner while everyone was dressed to impress in their all-white attire, Kevin’s grandfather gave a speech/toast to the family.  This gave Kevin the perfect opportunity to get his nerves together.  Then, he stood up and tapped on his champagne glass  to get everyone’s attention. His grandfather said “Oh, you got a speech too.” . Kevin responded with “Not a speech, I just have a question.” As he got down on one knee, he was sweating and his hands were literally shaking. He was finally able to get out the words, “Will you marry me ?”

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day.

I woke up that morning deciding today was THE day. At lunch, I found our concierge to request bottle service for our tables after dinner. My biggest concern the whole day was how was I going to keep the ring hidden from Kenyell until it was time to pop the question. I knew Kenyell was going to be sitting to my right so I got to dinner early and put the ring box in my left pocket to make sure she would not be able to see it.

What makes your love special?

We’ve literally grown up together since we met when we were 15.  This allowed us to learn a lot about each other,  and now at 28 we are getting married. “Started from the bottom, now we’re here!”

What was the theme of your shoot?

Love and Basketball

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

Kenyell’s high school basketball coach, Jack Purtell, allowed us to access our high school (Reynoldsburg High School) to have our engagement photoshoot. To our surprise he stayed the entire photoshoot, commentated with excitement, and took some photos on his personal cell phone for his keeping. Our photographer, Rashad came up with a fun idea to get action shots of us playing 1-on-1 against each other in our high school gymnasium which was fun and hilarious.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

THE PARTY !!!! And also being legally married.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes!

Congratulations to the happy couple!  We wish you many years of wedded bliss!
