Timeless Affair: An Elegant Wedding in Pleasanton, CA

Anthony and Roshonna’s story began in 2021 at Bar 5015, a popular Black-owned sports bar in Houston, TX. Anthony was visiting family, and Roshonna was in town for a weekend trip with a close friend. Neither expected to meet someone special that weekend, but after discovering they both called California home, they decided to keep in touch. 

The beginning wasn’t without its challenges. Anthony was coaching for the Santa Cruz Warriors and working toward his goal of coaching for the Golden State Warriors, while Roshonna was stepping into her first HR Director role. Between demanding careers and frequent work travel, finding time for their relationship wasn’t always easy. But their connection was strong, and they both decided it was worth making things work. 

A few years into their relationship, Roshonna relocated from Los Angeles to San Francisco, bringing them closer and allowing their relationship to grow even stronger. They got engaged in February 2026, but their vision for marriage had been clear for some time. As they approached their 40th birthdays, they knew they wanted to enter this next chapter of life together as husband and wife. And so, Chapter 40 began with a wedding, and a shared future.

Wedding Theme/Motif/Inspiration: Our wedding date fell during the transition from summer to fall, so we wanted the venue and mood to reflect the transition, and serve as an ode to California Wine Country. Rather than the typical rustic winery theme, we agreed on an elevated boho chic vibe that felt romantic and effortlessly elegant. 

 Briefly tell us about your wedding experience and how the both of you felt on your big day. 

We wanted our wedding to be a true reflection of us as a couple, and it definitely was! We were very intentional about creating a memorable experience for our close family and friends, while incorporating personal touches that celebrated our backgrounds and shared journey. From jumping the broom, to the music (representing the West Coast and the South), and incorporating Anthony’s fraternity (Omega Psi Phi) traditions during the reception, every detail had meaning. 

Our wedding was everything we hoped it would be. #MeetTheVereens 

Wedding song, and the significance of the song: 

We chose “While We’re Young” by Jhené Aiko because it was already one of our favorite songs. We love its message of surrendering to love and being willing to go wherever life takes you together. 

With Anthony’s career, it was also Roshonna’s way of saying she’s ready to follow wherever their journey takes them. And for a little fun fact, when the song was available as a sleep song option on the Calm app, it was the only one they could agree on! 

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? 

We are looking forward to doing life together. We are excited to travel the world, start a family, and make new memories.
