Gabrielle Union is back at it again with her effortless style, but this time she’s rocking cropped tresses that beat the heat. We’ve seen Union with varied cuts during her time in the spotlight, however, in 2019, the 46-year-old actress and fashion entrepreneur has been beaming with confidence and grace in a way that black brides will want to emulate.
At this stage in her career, Union does what she wants, when she wants, which includes going out with au naturel beat face and a flirty bob.
She posted a gorgeous selfie of her new shaggy cut to Instagram for all to see. “New cut, who dis?…makeup by me/ @fentybeauty brows by @damoneroberts,” she captioned the pic. Who is the talented artist responsible for Union’s big chop? It was none other than her longtime hairstylist, Larry Sims.
As you can see, her chic, choppy ends fall right below her chin–serving as a perfect frame for her supple cheekbones. This entire look screams boho vibes and we’d love to see it donned by unconventional and low-key brides who don’t want fussy long hair down their backs on the wedding day.
Union’s skin, which she has credited to continuous hydration and the genetic lottery in a 2014 interview with Elle, is the definition of “melanin poppin’.” Moreover, with Fenty Beauty in her makeup arsenal, Union has very much so become a pro at the no-makeup makeup look. Her face looks sculpted, vibrant and bare with glowing highlights, full eyebrows, striking eyes paired with a neutral lid and nude lips.
Going back to hair, Union hasn’t gone this short with her natural hair in some time. Earlier this year, she sported a similarly cropped style with extensions at the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscar Party–which is a look that totally works for brides who would feel more comfortable with a lob.
More recently, Union has gotten creative with her new bob. For an event in Madrid, her stylist Sims added a little bump and tease to her hair and pulled it back into an elegant, bridal-worthy updo that was adorned with a studded headband.
If you’re on the fence about embracing short or natural hair on your wedding day, it’s safe to say that Union wants you to unapologetically accept beauty in all its forms. “Your hair doesn’t always have to be super straight to be considered beautiful. You know, we come in every incarnation,” she said in an interview with Byrdie. “We’re all on our hair journey, and everyone’s journey is beautiful and valid and amazing. The idea that how you wear your hair somehow relates to your character, your intelligence, or your wokeness is bulls**t,” she added.
Union’s approach to beauty is certainly inspirational. And as a black woman who has already walked down the aisle, we trust her judgment wholeheartedly. Only time will tell what she’ll do next and can’t wait for that day!
