If you’re a fan of blooming magnolia trees, magnificent weeping willows and sparkling ponds, this wedding styled shoot is perfect for your outdoorsy soul. Captured on the beautiful property of Virginia’s Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, this styled shoot is sure to inspire summery vibes regardless of where you choose to celebrate your special day. Our favorite details are definitely the floral themed stationery, place settings and wedding cake, as well as the bride’s stunning tulle gown; all of which were expertly shot by Rosie Omar Photography.
A Little Eccentric Event Co., a Virginia-based wedding planning and design company worked together with a team of talented vendors to bring this whimsically romantic outdoor styled shoot to life. Here is what Titania Kizer of A Little Eccentric Event Co. had to say about her vision for this charming styled shoot.
“In the tablescape, I selected a vibrant navy blue linen that created a beautiful contrast against the neutral white and green colors in the floral design. The lavish greenery and the multiple colorations of white from the roses and carnations connected the sophisticated aesthetic of the design. The mahogany in the wicker chargers added more texture to the table and also paired nicely with the chairs. The copper accents in the candle holders and modern mint julep cups added a touch of glamour to the overall story of the tablescape.
For the design of the cake, I chose to go with a traditional three-tiered round cake. The elegant cream and white colors, with the addition of the cascading magnolia blossoms, embodied romance. A few creative elements in the styled shoot included a signature drinks chalkboard and magnolia leaf place cards. The script on both of these elements was handwritten in calligraphy and the chalkboard was decorated with the same floral used in the table design.
The bride’s dress was a magnificent A-line, sweetheart creation by Christina Wu. The lace and intricate gold and silver beading gave the bride a classic and timeless look. The flowy tulle in the skirt was perfect for an outdoor celebration of love. The jewelry was demure and simple, with a single diamond bracelet and a pair of teardrop diamond earrings. The bridal bouquet was a traditional arrangement of white roses with a touch of greenery to complete the bride’s look.”
Shoot location: Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, Alexandria, Virginia
Shoot theme: “A Charming Summer Chic Wedding,” inspired by magnolias, mint juleps and summer romance, this styled shoot is a fresh perspective on an utterly timeless outdoor wedding design.
Color combinations: Navy blue, ivory, white, copper and shades of green.
Favorite detail: My favorite detail was the stand-alone chalkboard with the signature drinks menu on it. I adored everything about this chalkboard from its unique shape to the whitewash finish of the wood frame and the little bird at the top. The menu itself was beautifully handwritten in calligraphy.
The linens for this tablescape were found at DC Rentals in Arlington, Virginia. The gorgeous blue linen that was used for both the cake table and tablescape was their “Tussori Indigo” solid texture linen. This linen was special in that it actually had two tones of blue with one side was deeper than the other.
While I chose to use the more indigo blue side of the linen, a hint of the rich navy blue color on the reverse side could be seen throughout the tablescape. I chose to go with the “Mystique Satin Sultry Beige” napkins, which looked glamorous and also took on a pinker hue against the dark brown of the wicker chargers.
The design concept of the centerpiece was to have a timeless floral table runner with touches of copper throughout it. Variegated pittosporum, Italian Ruscus and lemon leaf greenery were used to create a simple but aesthetically complex foundation for the floral runner. The elegant white and ivory garden roses paired with the delicate white carnations brought forth the romantic and chic aspect of the design. White hypericum berries were also included for both texture and another element of elegance.
Copper candle holders were added in and around the floral table runner. The various sizes and shapes of the candle holders produced an effect that was both glamorous and charming in the overall look of the tablescape.
The place settings started with rich mahogany wicker chargers that not only stood out against the vibrant blue table linen but also added texture to the table design. The simple white plates set a great neutral background for the dinner menus and satin napkins, which added an element of glam.
The glassware at each place setting included a champagne flute, red wine glass and a modern copper mint julep cup. The lovely copper matte finish of the mint julep cups also had a silver finish inside which paired wonderfully with the silver cutlery. Lastly, each place setting was completed with a magnolia leaf place card that had each guests’ name handwritten in calligraphy with gold ink.
A few words I would use to describe the stationery suite would be: modern, trendy and bold. The minimalistic color scheme of white and classic navy blue set the overall sophisticated and fresh tone of the design. One of the inspirations for the styled shoot was magnolia blossoms and we wanted to incorporate this as a surprise element in each part of the stationery suite. The wedding invitations and the dinner menu have the same beautiful branches of blossoming magnolia flowers as the background.
Instead of doing this for the save the date cards, we chose to do envelope liners with these same magnolia flowers as a fun design element. We also used navy blue envelope liners in the envelopes for the wedding invitations. Another trendy element that was used in the design was the use of bold typeface on the save the date cards, wedding invitations and dinner menus. Lastly, a great finishing touch to the whole stationary suite was the handwritten calligraphy on the envelopes. The navy blue envelopes were done in white ink while the white envelopes were done navy blue ink.

The cake stand was a fun DIY project. I was inspired when I found the small wooden crate and decided to stain it that rich mahogany color. The color and shape of the crate contrasted nicely with the wedding cake and fit the theme of the styled shoot. The venue was a perfect setting for this tablescape because there were blooming magnolia trees on the property as well as weeping willows. This really added to the romantic summery vibe of the photos.
