Janel and Tim met in 2012 while Janel was hosting an event at Tim's restaurant. "I must have caught his eye because he kept coming by to check on me. After my event, he helped me pack up and bring my bags to the car. We talked at the car for a while and then he asked me out on a date," recalled Janel. He proposed to me on Thanksgiving. We invited both of our families to spend the Holiday with us and also meet each other for the first time. After dinner, he asked everyone to say what they were thankful for. When it was his turn, he said that he was thankful for me and the rest of what he said was a blur because he got down on a knee and asked me to marry him. Best Day Ever! Most memorable moment – I actually gave him a high five. My family won’t let me live it down.
For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day.
I wanted to make sure both of our families were present so I did it on Thanksgiving. We brought both of our families in from Chicago, Texas and North Carolina for the occasion. I waited until dinner was over and everyone was relaxing. I stood up in front of both of our families, told her that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I got down on one knee and pulled the ring out of my pocket and the rest is history because she said yes.
What makes your love special?
We laugh a lot. I’m can be silly at times and he joins right in with me. We both love getting out of the house, spending time with friends and trying new things. We keep each other a priority and work together towards the same goals. It’s really a perfect fit.
What was the theme of your shoot?
Old School meets new school. I love the movie Dreamgirls and the transformation that happens through the years. I thought it would be cool to start out at a record store and evolve into a power couple.
Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?
While we were on the rooftop of Ventanas we could see a huge storm coming in. The sky was literally pitch black. Our photographer, Charlton from Inije Photography was able to get the shots we needed right before the storm came in. It was dramatic but fun!
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
I’m really looking forward to bringing our 2 families together. We chose Memorial Day Weekend so we could spend as much time together as possible.
Have you started planning your wedding?
Because I’m in the industry I’ve put together a wedding vendor dream team. Everything is really coming together! I can’t wait!
