Real Engagements {Texas}: Kendrese & Jermey!

Kendrese and Jermey were familiar with one another through his sister that has been friends with Kendrese since the first grade. The couple officially started dating in February 2008, when Jermey was a senior and Kendrese was a junior in high school at Nacogdoches High School in Nacogdoches, TX.  The two spoke frequently during school, but neither expressed a romantic interest. Then one day, Jermey finally asked Kendrese for her number. "I played hard to get and said no. Of course Mr. Jones, the popular football jock, couldn't take no for an answer… so after much persistence I eventually gave him my number," recalled Kendrese. "We started talking on the phone and we would also hang out in the library during his senior off class period and my lunch. Then one day he finally asked me out for our first official date to Jalapeno Tree." The date was a success and shortly after Jermey asked Kendrese to be his girlfriend and his date to his senior prom. After high school, they both attended Prairie View A&M University where they developed a strong friendship. Upon graduating, the two rekindled their high school love and have been together ever since. Check out their fun outdoor engagement session, captured by Daniel T. Davis Photography!

Engagement story:

We got engaged on Saturday, March 19. Days leading up to the Big day, Jermey kept insisting that he wanted to take couple pictures. I was totally down for this idea since we hadn't ever taken professional pictures outside of school functions. The week leading up to the BIG DAY, I get an invitation from my auntie to my uncle's surprise birthday party at top golf so I instantly reply with a text that says I can’t make it because we are taking pictures that day. Then the day comes, my makeup is done and I am super excited, he looks over at me in the car while on the way to pictures and says…"baby since we are already close by, why don't we just run by your uncle’s party and waste time." I agree to the idea but was hesitant seeing that the party was supposed to start at 3 and it was 2:45. I didn't want to ruin the surprise by walking in at the same time. We arrive at top golf and we begin to walk in. I don't know why I didn't suspect anything seeing that he didn't even ask for a name or party location when we got to the entrance. Since it was my first time at top golf, I was way more interested in the venue and how I was going to find a left handed golf club among all those righties! We get to the area that he had dedicated for the proposal. It was so perfect. At first, I seen only my family and didn't really think anything but 5 seconds later he turned me around and I see out of the corner of my eyes his aunt and uncle and instantly knew…"OMG …TODAY IS THE DAY!" I totally couldn't have asked for a better proposal. He got down on one knee in front of both of our families to ask for my hand in marriage… And of course I said YES!

From the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day

I proposed to Kendrese at Top Golf in Spring, TX. I decided on Top Golf because it was a place where she had wanted to go but never had the chance. I also thought it would be family oriented and allow for both families to interact and enjoy becoming one after the engagement. Before the proposal or planning, I called her dad up one day and told him that I wanted to take him to this place called Top Golf. We played golf and sat down for lunch. After eating lunch, we were talking and getting ready to head out, I asked him “You know Mr. Ken, what do you think about me and Kendrese taking it to the next level?” he sat back in his seat for a second and replied “I think it’s a great idea!” We went on talking about marriage and when, how, and where I wanted to propose. A month and a half later on March 19th, I proposed to Kendrese Danette Cotton at Top Golf in front of her family and my family. I explained to her why I took her there and why I brought all these people together while getting on one knee to ask for her hand in marriage. It was a great day.

What makes your love special?

Our love is special to us because we have grown and matured with each other. Our love has matured with time and strengthened through friendship. We continue to keep God first and in the center of our relationship. We balance each other out and our love is a bond that has proven to be unbreakable over time. We have found the one whom our heart desires.

What was the theme of your shoot?

We really just wanted to showcase both of our personalities with our engagement photos as well as include his animal child, Cash. Our true theme was just to have fun and enjoy the moment.

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

Our most memorable moment during our photos would be while shooting our pictures with Cash. I was already sitting on Cash and we were taking photos while Jermey stood next to us. Then Daniel, our photographer, ask if Jermey could get on the horse with me. Well as Jermey is attempting to get on the horse, I guess Cash was calculating all this weight that was going to be on his back and he was just not ha
ving that at all. It was the funniest thing ever. All I could think about was how unsuccessful this attempt was going to be but it ended up being the highlight of our engagement session.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are looking forward to absolutely everything!!!! Most importantly, we cannot wait to celebrate our love for one another with our family and friends as well as starting our new chapter in our life as husband and wife.
