Real Weddings {Atlanta}: Amesha & Roderick! – Blackbride.com

In August 2006 Roderick and Amesha were drawn to each other in a sea of over a million dancing bodies. The Place- Toronto, Canada. The Event- Caribana Caribbean Festival, a festival frequented by over 1.3 million visitors each year.  Despite the crowd filled with beautiful faces, Amesha instantly became Roderick's one in a million. Roderick, who lived in Georgia and Amesha, who lived in Detroit at the time, both recall hitting it off from the very beginning. Although the two lived in different states they kept in touch off and on, but hadn't decided to date long distance.  The two visited each other and tried to maintain a friendship despite the distance. Amesha moved to Georgia in 2009 and the friendship between the two grew stronger as they began to spend more time together.  Almost four years later the couple made it official with a stylish Atlanta wedding captured by one of our favorite photographers, Sophia Barrett Studios . Engagement story ( from the groom) :

On August 3, 2012, we took a trip to Chateu Elan in Braselton, Georgia to celebrate our birthdays.  When we got to the hotel we enjoyed an afternoon at the pool relaxing.  While at the pool, I was talking with Amesha, asking if she wanted her birthday gift now or later.  I was able to convince Amesha that she was getting a PlayStation 3 as her birthday gift, plus another little gift that she would receive later.  And if anyone knows her, they would be sure that she would not want a video game system as a present.  While getting dressed for dinner we reminisced about how August 5th would be 6 years since we've met.  Before walking out the door for dinner I asked her if she wanted the other birthday present since she demanded that the PlayStation 3 go back to the store.  She said yes.   And at that moment I pulled out the ring, got on one knee, and the rest is history…Oh, I must mention that she was too excited and shocked to say yes!

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because we were drawn together by two of the most special people in our lives, our mothers.  His mom, Sandra Wesbrook and my mother, Alethea George, both lost their lives at an early age.  And, it was at such a  pivotal time in both of our lives.  No one we had known had ever experienced such a loss. So we leaned to each other for comfort, which allowed our friendship to grow.

Your best/most memorable moment:

Amesha: My most memorable moment was our “First Look.”  This was a time we had alone before the ceremony to greet each other.  It was special.

From the Bride:

It was so much anticipation leading up to the actual event. We had so many highs and lows that it was such an arduous process. This was because we decided to plan the entire event ourselves. I felt relieved! And, I felt like it was a job well-done.  I was so happy to be marrying Roderick and proud that he would soon be my hubby.  Surprisingly, I was calm until they said, “It’s time.” I became emotional, but filled with happiness.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Family is very important to us. We are looking forward to having children and building our lives together.

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

Don’t let the stress of it all overwhelm you! We took on quite a bit planning an event for 150 people ourselves. So, just don’t forget the reason for it all.  Enjoy the moment because we made a conscious decision not to be stressed and to take it all in.
