Engagement story:

After celebrating 7 years of dating on October 12th, 2011 Donald decided he was going to propose. In November he called Vasthi (my older sister) and told her what he planned on doing, he wanted her to set up a meeting between him and my parents so he could ask them a very important question. Vasthi was ecstatic and planned that meeting in just a couple of days. Donald asked my parents for my hand in marriage and of course they said yes. Now the hunt for the perfect time to propose to me was on the agenda. Kenson and Katia, really good friends of ours ( also one of the best men and matron of honors), always held an annual Christmas Party at their house. This was the place to be every year and Donald along with Vasthi, Kenson and Katia decided that this would be the perfect moment.

On Christmas Day December 25th, 2011 I woke up and went to Donald's church thinking it was just a regular day. After church I asked Donald to take me home because I wasn't feeling well, when I got home I went to sleep. A couple of hours later Donald asked me if I would be going to the Christmas Party and I said no. Donald knew he had to get me to the Jean-Baptiste residence since a lot of people had already started showing up, so he went and bought me some medicine. When he got back to my house he said " you have to come with me, you don't want Katia cleaning that big house by herself". I got up and got dressed.

When we arrived at Kenson and Katia's house we walked through the front door and I was greeted by a huge group of loved ones shouting SURPRISE!!! Everyone I could ever have wanted to help celebrate this momentous occasion was there. Our parents, siblings, extended family and friends, I realized on that day that this house sure could hold a lot of people!! It took me a couple of minutes to realize what was going on but when I looked at Donald one final time I knew he was about to propose. It was one of the best feelings ever!

 Your best/most memorable moment:

The best moment I would say was when the doors opened up and I saw Donald standing there. The feeling was magical. I just knew everything from then on out would be perfect.

From the Bride:

I was initially nervous because it was supposed to rain, but in the morning the skies opened up and it was beautiful. All I kept thinking was “we are finally getting married after a LONG 9 years”

From the Groom:

I knew she was worried about the rain but once the sun came out I knew she would be okay. I had a blast the entire day especially on the party bus.

Wedding song:

Golden by Chrisette Michele: It talks about love that your parents and grandparents had, the type of love that was taken seriously.

Favorite wedding detail:

I LOVED my wedding cake!!

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

Living together and having kids!!

Advice for a Bride/Groom on their wedding day:

Plan ahead. Get as much as you can get done as early as possible. You really don't want to be running around trying to get things done the day before the wedding!!

Congrats to newlyweds Ketia and Donald! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss!
