Tuskeegee College Sweethearts Engagement Session

Brandi and Joshua met during their freshmen year at Tuskegee University. They were introduced through a mutual friend and started dating shortly after in January 2012. In total, they’ve dated for six years, but they finally decided to take the next step in their relationship and got engaged on May 28, 2017. To celebrate their soon-to-be union, Brandi and Joshua captured their engagement session at the place where it all began. Check out their patriotic day, shot by Kamaree Odom of Social Shots Photography.

Engagement story:

For the engagement, I completely caught Brandi off guard. I was away completing training with the U.S. Army and was scheduled to return home on May 28. We scheduled a nice dinner downtown to celebrate my homecoming and once we arrived back home we were surprised by our families. The most memorable part of the night was Brandi’s sister, who was in charge of setting things up. She was running late and once we arrived, we were welcomed by our dog carrying a chicken wing and my brother eating tortilla chips.

For the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day.

Planning the engagement was sort of a challenge since I was away with the military for training. The one thing that I knew I needed to do was to catch Brandi by surprise, and the most ideal moment would be right when I returned from training. So with the date decided, next I just had to notify the family so everyone could be in position right when we arrived. The plan was almost perfect except for last minute execution details.

What makes your love special? We are legit best friends.

We do everything together and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We pray for each other and our relationship every single day, and we truly believe that god had a plan for us all along. Making god the center of our relationship has strengthened our bond and made our love unbreakable.

What was the theme of your shoot?

The theme of our shoot was a “Tuskegee Love Story.” We tried to depict our college experience and pay homage to Mother Tuskegee in our photos.

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

There is a photo of the two of us, and we’re racing. Brandi actually pushed me in order to win the race. (She’s a cheater!)

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We are most looking forward to seeing each other at the altar. We know that god will be all over the place during our ceremony, and we can’t wait until our marriage is official.

Have you started planning your wedding?

We have started planning the wedding. Brandi actually hired a wedding planner the day after we got engaged.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish you a fruitful wedding and marriage.
