A Parisian Dream: A Romantic Engagement Session in Paris, France

Before Fig and Jacquay relocated to New York, their paths crossed in Washington, D.C. Fig is the co-producer for the recent Broadway productions of “Othello” and “The Wiz,” and originally moved to D.C. to study systems engineering at The George Washington University. After graduating, she discovered a passion for storytelling and began working as a correspondent on the CBS TV show “Mission Unstoppable.”

The lovely couple had a romantic engagement session, captured by Through The Glass Paris to celebrate the next chapter of their lives together. Get inspired by their gorgeous shoot which is also featured in Vol. 19 of Black Bride Magazine.

Engagement story:

Jacquay planned a romantic trip to Paris over Valentine’s Day. He knew how much I loved the city and had always wanted to return after visiting years ago. We spent our days exploring charming streets and taking in the beautiful sights before he got down on one knee and proposed.

What makes your love special?

We bring out the best in each other, and at the end of the day, we genuinely enjoy being together. We share a lot in common and have a strong sense of alignment about what we want for the future. Where we’re alike, we move in sync, and where we differ, we complement each other in a way that just works. We’re both strong individuals in our own right, but together we’re even better. There is a deep sense of love and ease between us that makes everything feel possible.

What was the theme of your shoot?

We wanted to embrace the classic beauty of Paris and the timeless romance the city exudes. With the Eiffel Tower as our backdrop and the charm of its iconic streets surrounding us, our goal was to capture a sense of elegance as well as candid, in-between moments that reflected how we truly felt in the moment.

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

As we moved through the streets, a crowd gathered around us, watching our shoot unfold. We found ourselves dancing through the cobblestones and soaking in all the magic. Then, our photographer surprised us with champagne to celebrate!

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

We’re most looking forward to sharing the beginning of this next chapter with the people who mean the most to us—our friends, families, and community.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Yes! We’ve planned a destination wedding in Dublin, Ireland. In 2019, I had the incredible honor of becoming the first woman of color to win Miss Universe Ireland, so returning to celebrate this new chapter feels full-circle in the most special way. We’re excited to bring our families together to celebrate the beauty of our diverse backgrounds in a fusion of cultures.
