And just like that, Black History Month comes to a close with an electrifying night dedicated to highlighting the vast contributions of Blackness through music, film, and social justice initiatives. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People televised the final dispersion of the 2023 NAACP Image awards; hosted by entertainment icon Queen Latifah and heavily attended by Black Hollywood’s beloved. The presentation was filled with several standout moments, the most anticipated of the night being “Entertainer of the Year”, won by Angela Basset for her powerful performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

However, the public praised some additional awardees such as Niccon Annan earning “Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series” for his portrayal of Uncle Clifford in the Starz series P-Valley. As well as celebrating Quinta Brunson’s continued winning streak, taking home another accolade for “Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series” as Janine in Abbott Elementary.

In tandem with the ceremony stage, this year’s red carpet was also quite the show, as the attendees brought their A game in what some would say is the most infamous category; fashion. A notable observation was the differentiated representation of designers, as stylists took to a mix of expected luxury brands while also taking the opportunity to showcase upcoming names on such a major night. We dare say this has been the best dressed red carpet of the 2023 award show season.
