Engagement story:

I am a former pageant competitor, and decided to do one last pageant before taking a long hiatus. I went alone, and told my then-boyfriend to stay home. After finals, I was preparing to leave, when he texted me “You were amazing!” I thought little of it, and tried to get an Uber to get back to the hotel. I couldn’t find one, so I kept ignoring his many calls. Finally, a friend offered to drive me, and as I was in the car, he called again. “I’m here!” he said, panicking because he thought I was already back on a flight to San Francisco! We met back at the hotel, where I began to cry, due to exhaustion from the weekend, but also from him driving six hours to watch my final pageant.

He told me he had reserved a nice dinner, which I wanted to skip and go home, but off we went. We drove to Yamashiro, a restaurant in LA on a hill, overlooking all of downtown LA. As the sun was setting, we were walking around their beautiful koi pond and Japanese garden. After walking for a while, we came across a beautiful, majestic tree. “That’s a pretty tree, what kind do you think it is?” Todd asked. When I went to give him a crazy retort, I turned around to look at the tree, and he got down on one knee. He proceeded to say the most impactful things he has ever said to me, and we got engaged at 12 a.m. Eastern Standard Time — my parent’s 30th anniversary!

From the Bride:

It was almost surreal! Two years of planning and having so many loved ones fly across the country to celebrate for a whole weekend was magical. I felt strangely zen the whole day. My “I Do Crew” kept commenting about how calm I seemed!

From the Groom:

It was magical. I had a blast and felt so special all day long!

What makes your love special?

We seem very different on the surface, but we’re always learning and laughing together. We balance each other out and push each other to be the best version of ourselves.

Your most memorable moment:

We had a full weekend of festivities, so it was wonderful to be able to have time for quality interactions with our favorite people! From our rehearsal dinner on the water, to exchanging gifts with one another the day before the wedding, to the secret Father-Daughter dance to Missy Elliott, our wedding was a blast! We even wrapped up by taking 70 of our guests to Napa on Monday. We also made a point to have black-owned and underrepresented vendors, from our catering, to the bow ties, to makeup and hair!

Wedding song:

Ellie Goulding’s “How Long Will I Love You.” As soon as we heard it, we knew it was our song. It’s about everlasting love, and knowing you’ll be together no matter the ups and downs. It goes through events in nature that are timeless and eternal, like our love.

Favorite wedding detail:

That’s hard to say! We had a live wedding painter at our wedding, and that was fun for the guests as well. I’d probably
have to say our wedding venues were the best. They exceeded my expectations and were both so ornate and beautiful.

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple?

New adventures together. Making one another laugh. Traveling and trying new things!

Advice for a Bride and Groom on their wedding day:

Meditate. Take time to center yourself and step back from the chaos. Remember it’s about you both and your love. Remember to be present and take it all in!

Congratulations to the newlyweds! We wish you many years of wedded bliss.
