A Contemporary Museum Wedding in Richmond

Destiny and Devario met and became friends while attending Virginia Commonweatlh University (Go VCU Rams!). On New Years eve of 2014, Devario sent a Twitter direct message to Destiny requesting that they become better friends in the new year. Since that day, the two have been inseparable and four years later, they became husband and wife. Share in their gorgeous and momentous occasion captured by White and Black Photography.

Engagement story:

Devario worked with friends and family to coordinate a surprise engagement at the restaurant where he and Destiny had their first date. Thinking that they were just going to their college town to visit for the weekend, Destiny was pleasantly surprised when they arrived at the restaurant. With all of their friends and family there to witness, Devario dropped down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

From the Bride:

Honestly, the wedding planning experience was very overwhelming and frustrating at times. What kept me going was knowing how awesome our day would be regardless. On the wedding day, I was so excited, anxious and nervous at the same time! It was literally the best day and we had a great time celebrating our union with our family and friends. I felt so accomplished, like YES I PLANNED THAT!

From the Groom:

The wedding experience went smoothly for me as Destiny did a great job in planning. The tough part was us bickering about wedding details and spending. In the end, it was all worth it as the wedding turned out AMAZING. Destiny and our coordinator truly did an amazing job at making our vision come to life. Our wedding was an indescribable event!

What makes your love special?

Our love is special because we have become best friends which, in turn, makes marriage fun and exciting.

Your most memorable moment:

Groom- Walking out of the ceremony as Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins with all of our friends and family cheering us on.

Bride- Cutting the cake and both of us realizing that we never practiced how we wanted to do it

Wedding song:

Our First Dance Song was, We Both Deserve Each Other’s Love by  L.T.D

It is one of Destiny’s favorite songs and we both love the lyrics.

Favorite wedding detail (favors, cake, food, band, etc.):

The food and venue!

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? Continuing to learn each other, travel the world and grow together in life. We just purchased our first home; this is just the beginning!
