Real Engagements {Alabama}: Latoya & Eddie!

Latoya and Eddie met online in 2014. Although Eddie didn't make a great first impression on Latoya during their first call, Latoya decided to take a chance and give him a second chance. "Something told me to contact him again. I sent him a text and asked how he was doing. We talked for a little while and he FaceTimed me the next day during his lunch break. He told me how pretty my smile was and he made me blush," said Latoya. "We decided to meet up the next day at Railroad Park. He opened up much more than I thought he would." The two met again the next two days and just clicked. From then on, they talked every day. "He called me and told me he wanted to take me out for my birthday. We had a blast and we were both able to let loose and be ourselves! The next day, he told me I was his girlfriend," said Latoya. Check out their sweet outdoor engagement session, captured by Dontez Heard.

Engagement story:

EJ and I planned to take pictures each year in April as a way to capture where we are in our relationship. He asked me to schedule pictures with a really good photographer. So I went ahead and scheduled them for April in January with Dontez Heard. The weeks leading up to the photo shoot, I was on edge because I knew he was up to something but I wasn’t certain exactly what. The morning of April 5th, while I was getting dressed for work, I jokingly stated, “You only have a few more days to propose for our pictures!” He told me he wasn’t planning to do so until later in the year. I was upset and went to work sad. When I came home, there were candles everywhere and I thought he was being romantic and kind because I’d had a long day. He walked me over to our fireplace and there sat the ring I saw and fell in love with earlier. He shared his sentiments on why I was the onegot down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I smiled from ear to ear and said, YES!

From the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day:

I wanted to be unpredictable yet have a day of meaning. I had to deflect her suspicious nature and made her think I would propose on the day of our pictures but I knew I wanted it to be on the 5th. When she brought up the pictures, I knew she was still thinking I would try to do it then. Little did she know, I had planned it out to surprise her with an intimate proposal that night. She came home and thought I was just being sweet because when she called me, she told me she’d had a bad day at work. I had set up the ring by the hourglass that she loves on the fireplace and told her how much I loved her. The rest is history.

What makes your love special?

We are such opposites yet have so much in common! We try to thoroughly understand one another and learn how to increase the other’s happiness. I like to retain things he has stated he has never done or gotten and make those things happen for him. He always puts my needs before his own and I, his. We have the perfect balance.

What was the theme of your shoot?

Love, happiness, and FUN!

Were there any memorable moments during the shoot?

Tez was making us laugh the entire time and really made the process so much fun. He made us feel comfortable enough to be ourselves.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

Joining the love of my life in holy matrimony and connecting two families into one.

Have you started planning your wedding?

Would you like to see my PowerPoint!? I’m actually finished! I’m just looking for a designer to make the dress of my dreams and a day of coordinator!

Congrats to the happy couple Latoya and Eddie! We wish you a wonderful wedding and marriage.
