Real Weddings {Atlanta}: Alvina & Jonathon! – Blackbride.com

Alvina and Jonathon, who met while they were both enrolled in the same Warrior Leader Class in military school, started a friendship that soon blossomed into a full fledged relationship. Even though the couple had to endure a long distance relationship at first, their love for each other kept them going strong. The couple’s “Old Hollywood” inspired wedding was captured by Nadia D. Photography at the beautiful Atlanta Botanical Garden.

Bride: Alvina Banks, 30, Soldier in the U.S. Army

Groom: Jonathon Banks, 27, Police Detective /Soldier in the U.S. Army

Wedding Location: Atlanta Botanical Garden

Wedding Date: 4/14/12

Engagement story:
“Jonathon contacted my friends and my supervisor and got me the day off work with the Army without me knowing. I received a phone call early on January 24th, 2011 telling me to enjoy my day off. I was confused as to why I had the day off but said thank you and got back into bed. After a few minutes I heard a knock at my apartment door. Jonathon was standing there with flowers in hand. I was very surprise because he lived 50 minutes away from me. I was to have surgery on my foot soon so he told me he wanted to take me out for a fun filled day to make sure I knew he would take care of me when I’m not able to take care of myself. He took me to breakfast and then he suggested we go to the airport to exchange our left over Euros from our European trip. After exchanging the Euros I was surprised to hear him say we have to catch a plane. He flew me first class to Orlando to Universal Studios (which I love). He later suggested we go to Hardrock Café. When we entered the restaurant I was surprised to see my mother and my brothers sitting at a table waiting for us. To throw me off even further he told me that he knew I was having surgery the next day and I he wanted me to see my mom. I was disappointed but not for long. As we sat to eat, he got down on one knee and presented the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen and asked me to be his wife. I said YES!”

From the Groom:
“The best moment was when I first saw her walking down the aisle, speechless, is the only phrase. I knew she was beautiful, but she looked amazingly gorgeous.”

Favorite wedding detail :

“The cake was a layered cake with an old world map painted on it. The top layer was a globe with Jonathon, Myself and our dog Nero sitting on top of the world.”

From the Bride:

“I’m not sure how I got here but I’m glad I did because I’m sure this is where I want to be.”

Congratulations to the lovely couple! We wish you many more years of wedded bliss.
