Real Weddings {New York}: Andrea And Alonzo! – Blackbride.com

Posted on November 20, 2012 by Charanna Alexander

Andrea and Alonzo met in 2007, when they both lived in Brooklyn, N.Y. The two exchanged emails and after a couple of messages back and forth, they realized that they had met several years before via a mutual friend. As luck would have it, shortly after they officially began dating, Alonzo got a job in California, but the two decided to continue their relationship. After 3 years of a long distance love affair, Alonzo finally returned to the east coast when he got a new job in DC. 10 months after his DC move, Alonzo and Andrea were engaged and after much deliberation, decided on a small intimate wedding with a Brooklyn theme. Check out their classic B.K. wedding captured by Maximilian B. Nucci .

Bride: Andrea E. Brown, 36, Speech Pathologist

Groom: Alonzo N. White, III, 44, Investment Banking

Place of Residence: Washington, DC

Wedding Date: 4/22/12

Wedding Location: Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Honeymoon Destination: Rome and the Amalfi Coast, Italy

From the bride:

“On the actual day of the wedding, I was nervous that morning. But the moment I walked out and saw Alonzo I was overjoyed and immediately felt calm. I remember that I could not stop smiling! I could not wait to get married to Alonzo and spend the rest of my life with him.”

Your best moment:

“One of the most memorable moments we had was when we saw each other for the first time before getting into our cab. The photographer had Alonzo keep his back to the hotel door as I walked out and walked up to him. The moment we first saw each other was one of the best.”

Engagement story:

“Alonzo had come to visit and we spent the day running around doing errands, haircuts, pedicures, walking around Brooklyn, lunch, etc. Apparently Alonzo had the ring in his pocket the whole time. That night we decided to go to the restaurant where we had our first date. While sitting and laughing and drinking and talking about marriage we started joking around and singing “Let?s Get Married” by Jagged Edge. Then Alonzo says, “Let?s get married baby!” and I said “Okay, let?s get married!” Then out of nowhere, he pulls the ring out his pocket and said, “Let?s do it!” I was in shock! I laughed, then cried, then of course said “yes!”.”

A special kind of love:

“We love and live in the moment. We love each other at the point that each person is at in their life. We know that we are not perfect and are works in progress and love each other unconditionally.”

From the groom:

“I felt calm. When it was all said and done, I was happy that we decided to do a smaller intimate wedding. That helped me to be less focused on all the people at the wedding and focus more on my bride. Everything was right!”

Favorite wedding detail:

“Our favor was Black cake, which is a traditional West Indian (Caribbean) cake that is served at weddings.”

Advice from the Bride and Groom:

“It is important to focus on what you want as a couple for the sanity of your relationship. You will have lots of opinions thrown at you, but at the end of the day, it?s your day; do what makes you happy.”

Congrats to the lovely couple! We wish you many years of wedded bliss!
