Love & Heritage: A Dual-Wedding Celebration

Aurriel and Kofi first crossed paths online in 2021 when Kofi casually slid into Aurriel’s DMs. At that time, he was living in Seattle, but was hoping to move to California. Aurriel shares more about the beginnings of their love story: “While I didn’t love the distance, we messaged off and on for about eight months with friendly banter. It wasn’t until we finally met at a mutual friend’s game night—surrounded by laughter, snacks, and spirited competition—that sparks truly flew. We’ve been inseparable ever since.”

After four years of pure joy, laughter and new memories the couple had a western wedding in Huntington Beach, California and also embraced tradition with a stunning Ghanaian ceremony at the bride’s parents’ home in Riverside, California captured by A New Odyssey.

Western Wedding

Briefly tell us about your wedding experience and how the both of you felt on your big day. 

Our wedding day felt like a celebration of everything we love—family, friends, music, laughter, and each other. The whole day was wrapped in an air of excitement, with everyone we care about under one roof. We both felt a giddy mix of nerves and pure gratitude. Between the heartfelt vows and the comedic moments (we’re both suckers for a good joke), it was a perfect blend of who we are. We were surrounded by so much love from our friends and family, it was truly an unforgettable day. If we could relive one day over and over, it would be that one. 

Wedding song, and the significance of the song Our first dance was to “Can We Talk”, a nod to how our relationship blossomed from casual Instagram chats to a real-life connection at that unforgettable game night. It reminds us that sometimes you need to talk face-to-face to let real sparks fly. We also played “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder—not for any dramatic backstory, but simply because we love Stevie’s timeless sound. The moment that song came on, we were both floating, wrapped up in lyrics that felt made for us. 

What are you most looking forward to as a married couple? 

We’re excited to keep fueling our shared passions—cheering on our favorite sports teams (and debating rivalries), exploring the outdoors one trail at a time, and bonding over our love for medicine. Most of all, we can’t wait to keep creating laughter-filled family memories, weaving comedy and lightheartedness into even the simplest everyday moments. Above all, we’re looking forward to growing together, side by side, wherever life’s adventures take us.
