Kiersten and Steven attended the illustrious NC Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, NC but met later in life when their paths crossed again via social media. Kiersten had joked online about being a “bad texter” and Steven capitalized on this opportunity to get Kiersten’s phone number and test this theory. Ironically, the two came to realize that Steven had actually already met Kiersten’s dad several times while on campus. The two went indoor rock climbing on their first date in early 2020 pre-pandemic. Shortly after, COVID-19 left everyone locked inside and left many outdoor activities closed which gave the pair a unique opportunity to get to know each other. The rest is history!

Kiersten and Steven would often frequent one of their favorite art galleries, Ella West Gallery, in Durham NC which also happens to share a name with Kiersten’s late grandmother. Due to their love for the space, Steven contacted the gallery owner to close the gallery for the proposal. On the day of, Steven displayed photos of the couple’s love story in the gallery. Kiersten’s family was in on the surprise and got Kiersten to the proposal venue under the guise of a downtown dinner reservation.
For the Groom, walk us through the behind-the-scenes of creating this special day:
Steven was nervous as he retrieved the key from the gallery owner and set up flowers, the photo display, and champagne. Steven actually arrived in Durham that morning but led Kiersten to believe that he was in DC helping a friend move. He felt a sense of relief and joy as everything unfolded as planned.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
The couple is excited to celebrate their love in an intimate ceremony with close friends and family next March, but most of all they are excited about the opportunity to start a new and fruitful chapter of life together.
