Joi and Cureton’s love story is a reminder that the best things often unfold when we least expect them. The two met in 2023, thanks to a persistent mutual friend who was certain they’d be a perfect match. Joi, unsure if she was ready to dive back into dating, was hesitant at first—but eventually agreed to meet Cureton for what she thought would be a simple dinner at Cantina 76. That casual night over tacos turned into a turning point. From their very first conversation, something just felt right. Two years later, their journey has grown into a love story rooted in faith, timing, and undeniable connection.

Engagement story:
Joi wasn’t expecting anything out of the ordinary that evening. Dressed in pajamas with her hair wrapped, she was winding down and tidying up the kitchen when she turned around to find Cureton—affectionately known as Ponce—down on one knee with a ring in hand. No cameras, no elaborate setup—just the two of them, in the comfort of their home.
He told her he loves seeing her dressed up, but he wanted this moment to reflect something more intimate: the everyday version of Joi—the one he cherishes most. “This is who I get to do life with,” he said, “and this is how I want to start forever.” What made the proposal even more meaningful was the ring itself. Cureton had worked with a jeweler to incorporate a piece of Joi’s late mother’s jewelry into the design, creating a timeless symbol of love, legacy, and a future built together. It was a beautiful, deeply emotional moment—one Joi will never forget.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
Joi is most excited about the sacredness of the moment—standing beside Cureton, surrounded by their closest family and friends. One part of the day holds special significance: her grandmother, who is approaching 90, will be there to give her away. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime moment I’ll carry in my heart forever,” Joi shares, knowing how deeply meaningful that memory will be for years to come.

Congratulations to the happy couple! We wish them a lifetime of wedded bliss.
