Black Bride was able to get the scoop on the latest wedding fashion trends at this year’s New York Bridal Fashion Week, hosted by The Knot Couture. We got a first-hand look at some of the biggest names in bridal fashion, like Galia Lahav, Julie Vino, Naeem Khan, Pronovias and Reem Acra! This year we saw lots of amazing designs debut on runways and a re-emergence of the classic white ball gowns, with a modern twist of course. Other notable trends include pops of color, plunging necklines, thigh-high slits and sexy lace.
There were so many fabulous looks to choose from, but here are a few of our favorites from some of the 2017 Bridal Fashion Week runways in New York City!
Galia Lahav Florence by Night Collection
Known for over-the-top couture gowns, Galia Lahav’s Florence by Night collection takes inspiration from perfumery and exemplifies that no two women are alike in “scent.” To bring this vision to life, Galia Lahav took new approaches to gossamer tulle, fine lace and intricate embroidery so every bride can express her individuality. In Florence by Night, you’ll find on-trend pieces that offer timeless appeal, including ribbons, off-the-shoulder styles, and flowing lace.
Our favorites: Ambrosia, Daffodil, Magnolia and Mila.
Julie Vino Havana Collection
Inspired by the pastel hues found on the island of Cuba, Julie Vino’s Havana collection will make you want to mambo down the aisle. Utilizing chiffon, silk and other flowing fabrics, the Havana collection is sultry, feminine and daring. From illusion bodices with plunging necklines, to sheer thigh-length slits, and playful beading, the Havana collection pushes the envelope while also maintaining bridal-worthy sophistication.
Our favorites: Look 6, Look 16, Look 27 and Look 28.
Naeem Khan Fall 2018 Collection
Going back to 1950s and 60s, Naeem Khan’s Fall 2018 collection is combined with bit of Spanish flair for a look that is regal. Floral appliques and ornate veils, coupled with traditional ball gowns provided a retro feel; while Japanese motifs and tiered African raffia skirts brought a good dose of modern drama and cultural influence to the runway. With Naeem Khan’s Fall 2018 collection, expect to find bohemianism, intricate beading and translucent tulle in designs that are anything but boring.
Our favorites: Look 6, Look 19, Look 20 and Look 21.
Pronovias Atelier Pronovias Collection
The latest Atelier Pronovias collection is defined by dreams and wishes, with water as the main element that shapes these fluid and sparkling gowns. Reinvented silhouettes, like the flared line, emphasize the feminine form; while silk gauze, organza and Mikado add volume. Other gowns in the Atelier Pronovias collection feature elegant embroidery, crepe, soft satin and French lace that’ll make any bride swoon. In Atelier Pronovias, you’ll find convertible dresses with detachable boleros, accentuated backs and longer-than-life trains.
Our favorites: Rierol, Romeo, Riva and Rosales.
Reem Acra Fall 2018 Collection
This season, Reem Acra showed us that classic styles aren’t going anywhere. Going after the idea of “purity,” Reem Acra’s Fall 2018 collection is unfussy and chic. Divine organza fabrics, intricate thread work and Reem Acra’s signature embroidery were standouts throughout the show. However, it was the use of baby’s breath accessories down the runway that made Reem Acra’s collection look like a fairy tale come true.
Our favorites: Look 2, Look 12, Look 16 and Look 21.
