Karlyn and Scotty met in September of 2009 at a Young Professionals Networking Happy Hour in Hallandale, Florida while Scotty was Commander of the US Army Recruiting Company covering South FL and Karyln was employed as a prosecutor in Miami-Dade. Engagement story (From the Groom):
So there I was in Orlando about to depart to go back home to Savannah. But when I woke up that morning, I knew this would be the day I would ask Karlyn to be my wife. We said our goodbyes, but this time I didn’t get on the road. I called one of my closest friends, and told him what I was thinking and that I didn't want to wait another day. 8 Jewelry shops, several phone calls (including one to Karlyn's mom) and 8 hours later I had the perfect ring. Even though I told her mom, I'd try to wait until New Year's Eve, I couldn't wait. Around 7:00 p.m. on December 29, 2011, I proposed at Karlyn's office. I gave her a beautiful bouquet of red roses, with a yellow rose in the center. I told her that the red represented our love and the yellow represented friendship, which is the center of our relationship. Then, I told her that I didn't want to go another day not knowing if she would always be by my side. I got down on one knee as she sat behind her desk and I asked her to be my best friend forever. She said YES! and on January 18, 2014, we will begin our life together as husband and wife.
What makes your love special?
I think the most special part of our love is that Scotty is truly my best friend. We laugh together, cry together, motivate, inspire and educate each other. We are partners in every sense of the word. We were friends before we fell in love and have found that building love around friendship has been the most beautiful part of our relationship. So much easier than trying to find friendship after emotions are already involved. I couldn’t imagine my life without Scotty, he is the best friend and best man I could ever ask for.
What was the theme for your engagement shoot?
We love the outdoors and wanted that to be the focus of our shoot. We always have fun in each other’s company and just wanted that fun illustrated through the photographs. We also threw in a couple Pinterest inspired props like the chalkboards and DIY save the date sign.
What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?
Karlyn: I’m most looking forward to that long walk down the aisle into the arms of the man I vow to love forever!
Scotty: Becoming one with my best friend and having my closest family and friends come together to be a part of the festivities. It will be an induction of new members into the family.
