Real Engagements {Texas}: Kim & Robert! – Blackbride.com

Robert and Kim met at Midwestern State University the summer before Kim's sophomore year. "When the school year started we actually ended up having a couple of classes together. The night before our first accounting test I was studying in the student center with Kyle (groomsman). Robert walked by and we asked if he wanted to join, but he declined. A few days later we got our grades back and I ended up making a 94 on the test. Every class after that Robert decided he wanted to sit by me," said  Kim.  The two classmates ended up becoming really good friends and eventually started dating. However, after a couple of years Robert graduated and they decided to go their separate ways. After a year apart they slowly began to rekindle their relationship and have since pledged to spend the rest of their lives together. Check out their sweet engagement session captured by Lorena Burns Photography!

Engagement story from the bride-to-be:

I took Robert out to eat at Nick and Sam's Grill in uptown for his birthday. We decided to sit on the patio since it was nice outside. The food was great. He had the steak and I had the salmon. We ate a little and we drank a little. I notice Robert beginning to sweat so I told him if it was too hot we could go inside, but he said no. I ended up giving him the option to go inside two or three times throughout the dinner. I didn't understand why he was sweating so much, so I just laughed at him. On our way back to the car Robert stopped me before crossing the street and suggested we do something "crazy" in the middle of the street. I laughed and agreed. We decided to dance. So we ran out there and started dancing on the median. Robert began to twirl me, and in the middle of my last twirl he got down on one knee. I was so happy I began to cry. When we got to the car I called my mom, dad, sister, and brother, text my line sisters, then put it on social media. I couldn't wait to tell everyone! I turned and looked at him and said "Oh, this is the reason you were sweating."

From the Groom: Walk us through the behind the scenes of creating this special day: I wanted to ask Kim to marry me on my birthday because I wanted her to know that even on a day that is supposed to be about me, she is most important. She thought she had the evening all planned out. Even though I was nervous; I couldn’t wait to surprise her.

What was the theme of your Engagement session?

Simple and Elegant. Not too many colors and backgrounds, just us trying to capture our love.

What makes your love special?

We are truly soul mates. Trust, loyalty, forgiveness, patience, communication, and fun comes so naturally to us. Not everyone gets to experience a love like ours.

What are you most looking forward to about your wedding?

The most amazing part of our wedding was having our first dance as husband and wife.

Wedding Details:

My wedding was September 28th I was surprisingly very calm, cool, and collected, and everything seemed to fall into place. The weather was perfect, the decorations were elegant, and everyone was very excited. We all had such a wonderful time; I wish the night did not have to end.
